    Wines from Istria

  • Bruno Trapan is a young winemaker and producer of wines made flower its brand Trapan Wines. Curiosity, enthusiasm and love for this great work made products of the highest quality so that today you can try the fresh Malvasia (Ponente), Malvasia and Chardonnay in aged in acacia and oak (Uroboros), Rose (Rubi), Cabernet sauvignon (Nigra Virgo) and Syrah (Shuluq). The annual production is 40000 bottles where for now the most belongs to the Istrian Malvasia. The wineyards occupy the area of 5ha and are located in the south of Istria, in Sisan near Pula. The plan is to plant a further 5 hectares of vineyards and plant some native red varieties as Teran, because next to Malvasia it has great potential in the world of wine. Since 2009, the vineyards are treated in an organic way to accentuate naturality of the product.

In addition to the domestic market, Trapan Wines are also known outside the Croatian borders. The call for the famous festival in Merano received two years in a row, and the award recognitions Commended by Decanter magazine from the world famous wine magazine Decanter opened the way for export to England. Trapan wines can also be found in Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Monte Negro, Germany and Poland.

There is a tendency to expand production. A new winery has just been opened with the tasting room close to the wineyards.
The desire is to produce 80-90000 bottles per year and focus more on aged wines. We are always ready for new challenges and are constantly working to perfect the highest quality of our wines.

    Products:
    Ponente:
A white wine, straw-yellow in colour with green reflections. A fresh and fruity bouquet (with citrus flavours of grapefruit, lemon + green apple) with a hint of herbal notes. This wine reached the peak of its maturity and a rounded texture in 9/09. A wine with a rich, full body and a slightly pronounced mineral note. On the palate, its balanced acidity gives a pleasant freshness. Soft and mild almond bitterness in the aftertaste. A recognizable varietal and easy to drink.
    Uroboros:
A white wine, straw-yellow in colour with green reflections. When poured into the wine glass (middle glass recommendation, for a young red wine), it exhibits a layered and intense bouquet: first flower then fruit flavours (ripe grapefruit), followed after a few seconds by a wine favour with a mild honey note. An optimal balance between grape variety and wood. A succulent full body with a long aftertaste. This wine should reach its peak in 6/09 or even later on. The minerality is mildly moderate.
    Nigra Virgo
: An intense ruby red colour with purple tendency. A mild and pleasant bouquet of wild berries (cherry), plenty spices (black pepper). The tannins are soft, mature and well balanced. A full mouthfeel, spices, a long and soft finish.
    Shuluq
: A full and elegant wine made from grapes grown in a young vineyard. A dark and deep red in colour. An intense bouquet of cherry, wild berries, traces of strawberries, chocolate and spices. The tannins are intense, partly mature, with the aging potential and expected peak within 5 years. A full mouthfeel and a long aftertaste. Excellent balance between body and aromas. Let the wine aerate (decanting) at least 30 minutes before serving.
