Samobor is situated in the north-west of the Croatia near border with Slovenia (5 km) and near the Croatian capital - Zagreb (20 km) on the eastern slopes of the Samoborsko gorje hills .
With the Charter of King Bela IV. in 1242 Samobor has gained the status of free royal market, in the green above the city visible are ruins and remnants of the once solid and strong Samobor-town.
Žumberak and Samoborsko gorje hills and its preserved nature, rich forests, meadows and pastures, the mountains and plains, springs and streams, caves and archaeological and religious sites, for decades attract many climbers and hikers who seek their oasis of peace and beauty.
Samobor Carnival, one of the oldest Carnival celebrations in Croatia. In the Carnival week, the city becomes a Free Carnival Republic. Young and old residents of Samobor and all their guests can enjoy in the rich program of events which at that time last from morning until late evening hours. Since 1997. Samobor is a member of the League of European carnival cities.
Samobor is the famous for the cream cake called Samoborska kremšnita, which is eaten even when it is warm. It is one of the most famous cakes in Croatia.
Days of Samobor cream cakes held on the main square attract many visitors which can enjoy interesting cultural and entertaining program.
26th - 27.11.2011. in Samobor will be held first International SalsaFestival. Salsa Fest Samobor is big dance project first time held in the area of the City of Samobor, and it is a festival of salsa. For several days Samobor will be dancing center of Europe.
